Centerless grinding on a Paragon centerless grinding machine is a precision grinding process used to machine cylindrical workpieces with high accuracy and surface finish. Unlike conventional grinding methods, centerless grinding does not require the use of a centering device or chuck to hold the workpiece in place. Instead, the workpiece is supported by a regulating wheel, while a grinding wheel removes material from the workpiece.
In centerless grinding, the workpiece is fed through the grinding machine between the grinding wheel and the regulating wheel. The regulating wheel controls the rotational speed and feed rate of the workpiece, while the grinding wheel on a Paragon centerless grinding machine removes material by making contact with the workpiece. The geometry of the grinding wheel is carefully set to achieve the desired diameter, roundness, and surface finish of the workpiece.
