EdgeGARD Laminar Flow Hood EG-8252
How the Airflow Works:
With the EdgeGARD clean bench, room air is drawn through the lower front
louvered panels and sidewall section slots into the base of the hood by a
blower. The pre-filter traps dust and large particles. The pressurized air is
then pushed up the back wall plenum and finally through a HEPA filter at an
average velocity of 100 FPM. The HEPA-filtered air is directed horizontally
across the work surface toward the operator.

An EdgeGARD laminar flow hood, also known as a laminar flow cabinet or clean bench, is a specialized piece of equipment used in laboratories, medical facilities, and cleanrooms. It provides a controlled environment with a laminar flow of air to protect the work area and samples from contamination.
The laminar flow hood works by drawing in ambient air through a high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter, which removes particles and microorganisms. The filtered air then flows in a unidirectional, parallel stream over the work surface, creating a “laminar flow” that pushes any airborne contaminants away from the work area.
Laminar flow hoods come in different sizes and configurations to suit various applications. Some are designed as horizontal flow hoods, where the air flows horizontally across the work surface, while others are vertical flow hoods, with the air moving from the top downwards.
These hoods are commonly used in microbiology, pharmaceutical, and electronics industries for tasks such as sample preparation, aseptic handling, and protection of sensitive equipment. They help maintain a sterile environment, prevent cross-contamination, and safeguard the integrity of samples and products.
Popular brands that manufacture laminar flow hoods include Esco, Labconco, and Thermo Fisher Scientific. These brands offer a range of models with different features and certifications, ensuring compliance with industry standards and providing reliable contamination control in controlled environments.
