Liberty Machinery is currently selling a Haas VF-2 Vertical Machining Center in excellent condition. Our Haas VF-2 (Stock #47678) travels 30"X x 16"Y x 20"Z and is equipped with a Haas CNC Control with Remote Jog Handle. To learn more about this machine, click here.

Haas, a company based in Oxnard, California, is one of the leading manufacturers of VMC machines in the world. Haas vertical machining centers are known for high quality production and precision work. In 1988, Haas Automation was the first company to introduce an American-made VMC machine for under $50,000. The Haas VF-1 was one of the earliest industry benchmarks for affordable CNC machining technology.

Today, the Haas VF-2 is one of the most common VMC machines in use around the country.

Learn more about how Haas builds their VF-2 Vertical Machining Centers:

A vertical machining center, or VMC machine, is primarily used to remove metal such as steel or aluminum in order to shape a block of material into a precision formed surface. VMC machines, also known as vertical milling machines, are one of the most popular and versatile machine shop tools and can be used for a wide range of processes, including carving, engraving, drilling, tapping, countersinking, and other processes.

Machining centers are made in both vertical (VMC) and horizontal (HMC) models. The Haas VF-2 is a vertical machining center since the spindle is vertically oriented and moves up and down.

There are two main parts to every VMC machine: the spindle and the table. The spindle can hold a wide range of cutting tools and moves up and down on what is called the Z-Axis. The table is the platform where raw blocks of material are mounted or attached to be milled. The table moves both left and right (the X-Axis) and front to back (the Y-Axis). Since the vertical machining center has three axes of motion (X, Y, and Z) it can move in virtually unlimited directions and patterns.

VMC Machines are one of the most commonly used and versatile machine tools for many reasons:

  • Increased Productivity
  • High efficiency - short tool changing times
  • High rigidity - stability completing heavy-duty cutting
  • High speed - high spindle speed and rapid feed speed
  • High accuracy - high precision, high rigidity in axis direction and radial direction
  • High volume or low volume applications
  • Small part and large part machining
  • On-machine probing for inspection / set
